'Britain's Got Talent' is back on our screens again. Although not exclusively for singers - what are your views about this show which has taken not just the nation, but the whole world by storm!  Cool

So, what do you make of the judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan? Are they fair and accurate...? Who's your favorite of the three?  Does Simon seem softer here than on X factor?  Wink

How about the presenters? Personally I love Ant and Dec because they make me laugh!  Cheesy  Stephen Mulhern presents Britain's got more talent.  Again, I like his approach too, what do you think?

Are the singers that get through as good as the stories they tell?   How would the same singers do in an X factor audition, that's always an interesting comparison?   Undecided

Paul Potts won last year. Will another singer win this year, or would it be more exciting if a different act won?..  I have my eye on 'Scala'.  Keep an eye out for Nemesis as Total Vocal's Sam Jenkins is part of this group!

Your comments please...

Hrrmmmm, you have posed some good questions there Sheridan.

Britain’s got talent is a much needed return to how Saturday night entertainment ought to be. Of course, one show does not make a Saturday night, but this, in conjunction with other family focussed shows such as Doctor Who and others have taken a step in the right direction. As well as bringing a family together in many instances, it is the first step towards re-introducing the art of the true entertainer to the next generation - something that has been missing from our screens for a good many years!

What makes BGT great? I would say – firstly Simon Cowell, of course, who has the ability to see the potential of a format and the perfect time to use it. He is the perfect judge - to the point, plausibly abrupt rather than rude (a majority of the time), accurate and perceptive; clearly aware of the precarious line between business and compassion.  Next in the list of attributes, obviously Ant and Dec, who provide the perfect connection between the show and the viewers at home and make everything they do seem so effortless and easy, when in fact it is not! The other two ‘token judges’, Piers (not quite so bad) and Amanda (terrible), are a bit of fun, occasionally offering an ear worthy opinion, but more often than not, just making the most of their screen time. Unfortunately this means seeing acts go through, just for the sake of a prod at Simon, or a quick laugh, when they clearly are un-deserving of any more time, however, all part of the show I suppose.

Obviously, it is highly likely a singer will win, however, as a show, the variety of acts makes great entertainment and a change from the tired pop idol/x-factor format we are used to.  The final is exciting and a pinnacle, but all acts that reach the final stages achieve heightened celebrity and acclaim so this somewhat dislocates the anticipation of the final from the copious entertainment value still gained from the earlier shows.  As opposed to X-Factor, we see less tired shots of the crowds queuing to audition, thankfully a few less sob stories, a nicely broken down selection of good and bad acts and a bit more humanity and humour than those others as well.

As for the argument that singers should not be allowed to enter as we already have x-factor – well talent in its essence includes anything and everything that one considers their talent. How could singing be excluded? Animals - YES please, but singers, NO!!  That being said, the question Sheridan has posed regarding how these singers would get along in an x-factor audition is a good one. I think they would fare very differently. Mind you, it is the young ones that can’t apply for x-factor that seem to do so well on BGT.

As for Scala, Sheridan, aren’t they virtually the same as that group ‘Bond’ that seem to have been missed by many along the way??

Anyway, I for one think think that BGT is great! Fingers crossed for Nemesis then!

Cheesy hi I have got to be honest, i don't think the show is very entertaining at the moment. Nobody has caught my eye, and it is really not as entertaining as the X factor. Simon Cowell I will give you 2 years left on this type of t.v entertainment.

Hi

I have to say I find this sort of TV very amusing but don't like it when the Judges let people who are clearly very untalented carry on just for their own amusement.  Thats just cruel!  I can't fault Simon on this though as he says what he thinks straight away - it seems to be Piers who thinks its funny to let people continue for his own amusement and then he even puts some of them through - now thats just insane!

I think there has been some talent discovered already - the contortionist was amazing!  It's not meant to be like X factor as its a talent competition.  I think its great to have a show where people can showcase any talent they feel they have - after all everyone can't sing so everyone can't be on X factor.  Its the age thing too - there are limits on all other shows like this but you can be any age to enter this - in fact you don't even need to be human!  The Judges have already put one dog through to the next round - the dancing ferrets were a little mad though!

I'll be watching it through to the end - if nothing else its easy watching
